Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday January 10, 2020 at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Saturday January 11, 2020 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Oblong, IL. Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Oblong Public Library or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Dr. Steven B. Szigethy of Oblong passed away peacefully on January 5, 2020 at Crawford Memorial Hospital. He is the beloved husband of Maria Victoria Szigethy and loving father to his four children (Xavier, Ilona, Carolyn, and Stephen Alexander) and their spouses (Melanie, Alex, Mike, and Kristen) who will miss him dearly. He was also the proud grandfather of Xavier Joseph, Sofia, Delfina, John, Oliver, Natalie, Noah, and Hannah. Additionally, he is survived by a cousin Marta (Marty) Sergeant.

He lived an extraordinary life. Dr. Szigethy was born in Repcelak, Hungary and was the only child of Bela and Ilona Szigethy. He studied medicine in Vienna, Austria and then practiced in Austria briefly before coming to the United States for residency training.  He was fluent in multiple languages.  In 1979 he relocated to Oblong, IL to serve as a physician in Family Medicine at the Oblong Clinic until his retirement in 2014.

Dr. Szigethy was a deeply caring and compassionate physician with a smile that warmed the hearts of all who knew him. He enjoyed listening to classical music, reading books, watching movies, woodworking, and traveling.

He is preceded in death by his two parents and a premature son, Luis Eduardo, who died shortly after birth.
